American is pretty distinct from English, btw. Not saying an American and Brit couldn't hold a conversation, but there are a few word differences. Kind of like sister languages, like Italian and Sicillian.

This is a pretty accurate Maine accent, do not make the mistake of calling it a Mass accent. They're similar. Not the same.


If you've never been to Maine, yes, this is how people actually talk. If you're from away you probably drive a nice cah, but you're still wicked friggen dull. I actually have a normal US accent, both my parents were from Pennsylvania so my Mainah accent is pretty limited.

What I wonder is that...

When you listen to lyrical music and it's in English, everyone pretty much has no accent (or an American accent)....depending on your POV.

I mean...I grew up listening to the Beatles...Zeppelin...I couldn't tell they had any other accent from anything else I'd heard.

Maybe I should specify "rock"....I dunno if there are obscure/local bands/genres that may not conform to my hypothesis.

At the same time....even when you listen to country music....most songs have that country feel, but the people singing don't really have that "Goober" drawl that they may have when normally speaking.

AND southern rock bands like the Crowes, Skynyrd, and the Satellites don't really sound like they are country bumpkins.

I think bands like the Beatles, Zeppelin, Stones definitely have British accents.. though it is less pronounced in their music. And Skynard, Alabama, etc definitely have Southern accents..

Accents are less pronounced (or sound more American) but they're definitely still there.
